# Film Buddy 0.7.31 beta

This update adds Stitch for negatives scanned in parts, Auto Convert for new scans, a rebuilt Media page, redone HSL and Grade tools, and faster, closer-matching TIFF negatives.

- Stitch joins 2 to 4 white-light frames of one negative into a single photo. Select the frames in Media or the Workspace filmstrip and choose Stitch. The Stitch window shows the arrangement, then each frame being aligned, matched and blended. A tile in Media and the filmstrip shows where the stitched frame will land, and you can cancel a stitch at any point.
- A stitched frame previews in its frames' colors before you Convert it, and its sliders respond live. Its stitch report shows how well each seam fits and which files it came from, and Seams in the Workspace shows the joins on the photo. Unstitch removes the stitched frame and its edits and returns its frames to the Roll. Your originals are never changed.
- Auto Convert: Media has a new Automations menu at the bottom of the Rolls column. With Auto Convert on, each white-light or RGB negative you import or capture is converted as if you had pressed Convert, and the first picture you see is the converted one. Frames show Converting until then, and the RGB capture tile adds a short Converting step. Stitches are not converted automatically. Auto Convert is off until you turn it on.
- Media is rebuilt as two quiet columns: Import film and your Rolls on the left, the open Roll on the right. Search, sort and empty Rolls are in the Rolls menu, a Roll's dates, drive and notes are in the inspector, and Rename, Remove, Add files and tether setup are in the Roll's context menu. Sort, filters (with a new Status filter), grid or list and tile size share one view menu. Up and Down move through the grid, I shows the inspector and ⌘F searches Rolls.
- Rolls open without waiting for their previews, and thumbnails appear faster because Film Buddy keeps a small copy of each one.
- Film Buddy notices originals that go offline or come back when a Roll opens, at launch and whenever you return to the app. A Roll with offline originals shows a drive mark and a relink link, and you can relink from any Roll, not only the open one.
- The export queue shows one quiet row per frame, grouped by Roll when it holds more than one, with remove, warnings and progress at the end of each row.
- The HSL and Grade tools are redone. Each HSL rail and the Grade pad have twice as many steps: click to pick one, drag to move smoothly, Option-drag for fine control, and double-click to reset. The swatches show what the photo will get and update as you drag. HSL Saturation now keeps each color's hue and is as strong as Saturation, and the Blue band sits on a truer blue.
- Strong Shadows and Highlights settings on white-light negatives no longer flatten detail or draw outlines around bright areas.
- TIFF negatives convert much faster, and large ones convert at a reduced size first, as camera RAWs do, reading full resolution for export and 100% zoom. A TIFF exported from a raw developer has its camera's color undone before inversion, so it matches the same frame converted from the RAW much more closely.
- The Sony a7 III can now tether directly over USB with the camera in PC Remote. When a connected camera can't be tethered, Film Buddy names it and says why, for example when another app is using it.
- Opening Crop while zoomed in now opens at Fit with the handles on screen.

RAW and RGB conversions from 0.7.30 carry over. TIFF negatives need to be converted again, frames edited with Shadows, Highlights or HSL Saturation can look a little different, and saved previews re-render once.
